Flamingos are famous for their beautiful pink colour. But here is a surprise: baby flamingos are not pink at all. They are born grey or white. So where does the pink colour come from?
The answer is their food. Flamingos eat tiny shrimp and algae that contain a natural pink colour. As they eat more of this food, their feathers slowly turn pink. If a flamingo stops eating this food, it slowly loses its lovely colour. So a flamingo really is what it eats!
