Diego: Mom, can I talk to you about something? I need to tell you the truth.
Mom: Okay, you're worrying me a little. What's going on?
Diego: Remember when I said I studied for the math test last week? I didn't. I copied answers from a friend.
Mom: Diego. Why would you do that instead of just asking for help?
Diego: I was scared of failing, and I panicked the night before. It was a stupid decision.
Mom: I'm disappointed, I won't pretend I'm not. But I'm glad you're telling me now.
Diego: I've felt awful about it all week. I couldn't even look at my grade without feeling sick.
Mom: What do you think you should do about it?
Diego: I already told my teacher today, actually. She's letting me retake it honestly this time.
Mom: That took real courage, Diego. I'm proud of you for that part, at least.
Diego: From now on, I promise I'll ask for help instead of lying about it.
Mom: I'll hold you to that. Do you need help studying for the retake?
Diego: Actually, yeah. Could we go over it together tonight?
Mom: Of course. That's what I'm here for.
Diego: Thanks, Mom. For not just being angry the whole time.
Mom: We all make mistakes. What matters is what you do after.
