English, Class - 6: Present Continuous
Subject + To Be (am/is/are) + Verb + -ing (Ega + To Be (am/is/are) + Fe'l + -ing)
The Present Continuous Tense (Hozirgi Davomiy Zamon) ⏳
When do we use it? (Qachon foydalanamiz?) We use the Present Continuous for actions that are happening right now, at the moment of speaking, or for temporary situations that won't last forever.(Biz Hozirgi Davomiy Zamondan ayni ayni paytda, gapirayotgan vaqtda sodir bo'layotgan harakatlar yoki abadiy davom etmaydigan vaqtinchalik holatlar uchun foydalanamiz.)
- Right now: I am teaching you English. (Men hozir sizga ingliz tilini o'rgatyapman.)
- Temporary: I am reading a great book this week. (Men bu hafta ajoyib kitob o'qiyapman.)
🛠️ The Magic Formula (Sehrli Formula): Subject + To Be (am/is/are) + Verb + -ing (Ega + To Be (am/is/are) + Fe'l + -ing)
Think of "To Be" as the engine and "-ing" as the wheels. You need BOTH for the car to move!
1. Affirmative Sentences (Tasdiq gaplar) ✅
Just match your subject with the correct "To Be" verb (which you already mastered!), and stick -ing to the end of the action verb.(Egaga mos "To Be" fe'lini tanlang (buni siz allaqachon o'rganib oldingiz!) va harakat fe'lining oxiriga -ing qo'shing.)
- I ➡️ am working. (Men ishlayapman.)
- He / She / It ➡️ is playing. (U o'ynayapti.)
- We / You / They ➡️ are watching. (Siz / Ular / Biz ko'ryapmiz.)
2. Spelling Rules for "-ing" ("-ing" qo'shish qoidalari) ✍️
Most of the time, you just add "-ing" (go ➡️ going). But watch out for these two special rules!(Ko'pincha siz shunchaki "-ing" qo'shasiz. Lekin quyidagi ikkita maxsus qoidaga e'tibor bering!)
- Rule A: The Silent "E" (Ovozsiz "E"): If a verb ends in "e", drop the "e" before adding "-ing".
- make ➡️ making (yasamoyapti)
- write ➡️ writing (yozyapti)
- Rule B: Double the Consonant (Undoshni ikkilantirish): If a short verb ends in Consonant-Vowel-Consonant (Undosh-Unli-Undosh), double the last letter!
- run ➡️ running (yuguryapti)
- swim ➡️ swimming (cho'milyapti)
3. Negative Sentences (Inkor gaplar) ❌
Simply put NOT between the "To Be" verb and the "-ing" verb.(Shunchaki "To Be" fe'li va "-ing" qabul qilgan fe'l o'rtasiga NOT qo'ying.)
- I am not sleeping. (Men uxlamayapman.)
- She is not (isn't) listening. (U eshitmayapti.)
- They are not (aren't) coming. (Ular kelishmayapti.)
4. Questions (So'roq gaplar) ❓
Flip the "To Be" verb to the front!("To Be" fe'lini oldinga o'tkazing!)
- Are you listening? (Siz eshityapsizmi?)
- Is he working today? (U bugun ishlayaptimi?)
- What are you doing? (Nima qilyapsiz?)
🚨 Extreme Cases & Deadly Traps (Muhim holatlar va Adashmovchiliklar) 🚨
⚠️ Trap 1: The Missing Engine (Dvigatelni unutish)
Because Uzbek uses suffixes (like -yapman), many beginners forget the "am/is/are" in English. Remember the Magic Formula: you MUST have both!(O'zbek tilida qo'shimchalar (masalan, -yapman) ishlatilgani uchun, ko'pchilik boshlang'ich o'rganuvchilar ingliz tilida "am/is/are" ni ununtishadi. Sehrli formulani unutmang: ikkalasi ham bo'lishi SHART!)
- ❌ Wrong: I playing football.
- ✅ Correct: I am playing football. (Men futbol o'ynayapman.)
⚠️ Trap 2: Stative Verbs (Holat fe'llari) - THE BIGGEST BUG! 🐛
Some verbs describe states or feelings, not physical actions. We almost NEVER put "-ing" on these words, even if it is happening right now! We use the Present Simple instead.(Ba'zi fe'llar jismoniy harakatlarni emas, balki holat yoki his-tuyg'ularni tasvirlaydi. Bu jarayon ayni paytda sodir bo'layotgan bo'lsa ham, biz bu so'zlarga deyarli HECH QACHON "-ing" qo'shmaymiz!)
- Words to memorize: like, love, hate, want, need, know, understand, believe.
- ❌ Wrong: I am knowing the answer. (Men javobni bilyapman.)
- ✅ Correct: I know the answer. (Men javobni bilaman.)
- ❌ Wrong: I am wanting a coffee.
- ✅ Correct: I want a coffee.
